Hi All

I have been asked to help at a friend chairty event that she is running (as her son has leukimia) and its a large "It's a Knockout" event with army type teams entering in fancy dress.

Anyway she has asked if I would do the photography, as in take team pictures and then take pictures of them during the event to then sell to them, and barr printing costs all profit would go to the chairty.

Now I have never done anything like this before so I would appreciate any general photography tips for the event as I am still learning but also the printing aspect, I was going to host them all on a web page like photobucket with a code and ask them to email me there order with sizes etc but I don't really know what prices would be appropriate as I said I need to cover cost and make a bit for the chairty and also best method of printing? A lot of these sites like photobucket/snapfish offer printing but are they any good?

Would appreciate any advice.

Thanks.

p.s. If anyone wants to join a team for the event also, PM me..lol.

Needs planning.

If you have the option to have them printed on the day, put 2 copies of each on a notice board so people can pick the ones they want to buy there and then, rather than think about it and do very little after a few days.

If you're going to try and sell them more than 24 hours after the event I think it'll be much harder to get people to pay for them. You need to find somewhere to host them first, get that specific URL infront of the subjects on flyers or cards on the day, hope they have internet access, then have the photos of sufficiently low quality that they're not downloadable/usable, but good enough that people want them printed

Or do people really want them printed? If so, what size? Make it someone else's problem and give it to Photobox.

I think you'll find it hard to spin money from this one personally, you'd get more if you wander around with a change bucket on the day and host the photos somewhere FOC if you're happy to give them away.

Best of luck with it though

What's to stop everyone else taking their own photos for free?

Get a Photobox Pro Gallery and set your pricing. Let them worry about printing and posting.

I tend to agree, but I tried that at one event and earned the princely sum of £8. The whole thing is really a hiding to nothing whichever way you slice it. I think the best bet is to print them on the spot and hope to capture impulse sales. After that, forget it. People just don't want to pay money for anything these days; a digital snap has zero perceived value.

Oh, well it's worth a shot, not losing out by doing it and anything is a bonus.

Not stopping other people taking pictures at all was just hoping to catch something good enough people might want to buy, or take pity and donate laugh

Thanks for the suggestions will look into.
