Also would you recommend a 50-mm lens if i already have the 18-55 kit lens?

Yes, all the EF and EF-S lens will fit.

It really depends on what you are photographing. I know everyone goes on about how great 50mm lens is but personally I didn't have a good use of it when I had one. (It made a great paper weight though! biggrin ) *waits for someone to throw bricks at me*

Just be carefull of some realy old Sigma EF lens's , the rest should work fine.

50mmf1/8 is a handy tool to cheaply play with primes and shallow DoF. Costs next to nowt anyhow

I'd agree with that. If you're going to be doing portraits, it's superb. I've got 3 small kids, and with it wide open, I can get really nice portraits of them in almost any situation, as it so rapidly throws the background out of focus.

Other than that, it's nice to force yourself to use it from time to time to make yourself think more about shot composition, rather than just zooming in and out.

I don't use mine all that often, but as has been said, it's so cheap that in terms of cost per shot, I certainly don't regret having it. It's also tiny and weighs nothing, so not a hassle to keep in the bag.

It would be mainly used for taking pics of my daughter and my o/h, i was bidding on one on ebay but i've a feeling its going to go for almost the price of a brand new one so would rather put and extra 30 towards and buy brand spanker. Also bidding on a 75-300 lense too, hopefully get this for a bargain price unless it suddenly starts shooting up at the last minute.

Generally you don't get things for a bargain price on eBay. It's not like a car-boot sale; there are thousands of people who are all clued up on what the going rate is. Things tend to go for a fair price, given the risk of buying second-hand goods from a private seller.
