Cigarette/USB charging options for 450D?
Discussion
I'm away riding through Europe in a couple of months and will be taking my 450D along, but am not sure how to handle the battery situation. I'm not going to be likely to have mains supply since I'm camping.
My bike has a BMW 12v power outlet that I can get an adaptor for so it'll take cigarette lighter accessories and I'm planning on using a cigarette/USB adaptor to keep ipods, phones, sat nav etc charged. I was hoping I could find a charger for my canon battery that I could run from this, but am not having much luck.
Only option I've found is a battery grip that would allow me to use AA batteries as well as the Canon batteries. I should be able to find an AA charger that will run from a cig lighter I'd have thought.
Am I missing something?

Take a 12V->Mains inverter, and use your normal charger. Alternatively I have a cheap 3rd party charger from ebay that comes with both a mains and 12V plugs. It's Nikon, but I'm fairly sure I had the same thing for my Canon before I changed sides.
You could also seriously consider not taking a charger, but lots of batteries. I survived 2.5wks on safari on 3 batteries (charger blew up 3days in) a few years ago and last year spent a week hiking in Papua New Guniea away from running water, let alone mains power. Had 5 batteries, only three worked (cheap clones), but still took about 4k shots on 3 batts.
If you're going to be in organised camping facilities occasionally the bar will normally happily charge your camera up for you (in Africa and SE Asia at least). Just make sure your ipod doesn't have anything too embarrassing on it as it's quite normal for the bar staff to play to worst music they can find on any ipod they are charging and it can get a bit embarrassing!
