I need to recommend a camera for my techno phobic mum.

Simple, large LCD, reasonable but not top quality images.

Any particular suggestions before I start hunting in earnest ?

I have a sony cybershot. Set me back about £150. Has an auto option to just point and shoot. Had it a couple of years, no complaints and takes pretty good photos.

I went shopping with the olds looking for something similar for them. Trouble is most of the compacts are designed in Japan where the population naturally have smaller fingers and an affinity to symbols due to the Japanese language. I think you will struggle - most models are aimed at the young market. In the end we went with a Kodak as the user interface was significantly easier to use than everything else. Image quality is pants though!

Try Fuji. I have just gone through the same thing with my Mum and would recommend setting it up for her first so all she needs to do is press a button.

I am quite sure someone would do very well indeed if they really put some proper thought into this. The Flic (sp?) video camera have done well out of being very simple and easy to use.

A digital camera will need a computer to download the pics, is she OK with a PC? Unless of course she takes the memory card to be processed, assuming the camera you buy uses one? (Not meant as a derogatory comment towards 70 year old peeps) smile

Ordinarily yes, but I think some can be connected to a printer directly - 'PictBridge'? - and then she could delete the remainder.

Also most printers these days have memory card slots built in so can print direct from there.

I'm also advising dad on laptop and wireless......
But he is a current XP user and gets files etc so should be possible.
Will set up vista to recognise camera and file away the photos nicely for them (hopefully!)

Got my mother a Cybershot W150 I think or something like that they are some of the few left with a viewfinder - something many of the senior generation are familiar with
