Following my earlier thread, should I go panasonic, nikon (an if nikon which one) D60 or whatever

After much hmmming and arring -- I went for the NIKON D5000 VR kit with 18-55 lens

Just started playing with it today - yep its going to be a steep learning curce !!!

I shall try to upload some picks - try being the word

Just wondering what is is the next lens I should be looking to buy

Stick with the 18-55 until you know what you're doing.

Try to read the exif on every pic you see, and try to understand how it relates to the picture.

To get a quick and simple understanding of things,

Read this :

Or even better, try to work out the settings and their effect *before* you take the picture smile

What are the benefits of the D5000 over the D60?

I can see that might be useful, eg for low tripod work with live view (though how often do you do that?), but the D5000 appears to have landed between the D60 and D90 so I'm not sure why it isn't a D65 - dang, there are too many entry-level cameras around!

Not that one I'm afraid! - it's Nikon DX format (23.6 x 15.8mm like all Nikon DSLRs below the D700)
