Morning All,

I'm going on honeymoon in September and am looking for a new camera. I want excellent image quality but know, from past SLR experience, that I can rarely be bothered to fiddle much with settings.

The Canon G10 looks really good but can anyone suggest anything else with similar quality but that's perhaps a little smaller?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Giles

Check out Fujifilm F200 EXR or Panasonic TZ7 (or TZ6), probably cream of the crop compacts at the moment, some good web reviews around, one of which:

The Panasonic LX3 seems to be highly rated and is smaller than the Canon. There is also a Leica version of the LX3 that a few people on here have. One downside is that the lens doesn't go beyond 35mm equivalent of 60mm.

Also, it depends on what your definition of excellent image quality is. Even the best compact cameras are limited by the size of their sensor. However, the same can be said of 35mm cameras (film and digital), and most people are happy with the quality of those. Have a look at some example pictures to judge for yourself. Here are some:

Something like the sigma dp1 / dp2 would be ideal too. A dslr size chip inside a compact body.
Only downside is the lack of zoom.

I've got a G9 but based on reviews on here I think I'd be after an LX3 if I was shopping for a similar camera now. As much as I like the Canon I think Panasonic have moved the game along a bit.

Maybe the Lumix DMC-G1? click
Maybe the best of both worlds with intelligent auto mode and the facility to fiddle if you later decide you fancy a little more adventure.
"Best of both worlds" or "jack of all trades, master of none" - dunno really.
I've just bought one but it's too soon to decide whether it's any good yet...

Thanks for all the thought and comments - have decided to go the whole hog and get a DSLR (probably the forthcoming Nikon D4000) as I've got a Sony T90 for nights out and an old Canon S70 Powershot.

I sense this could be the beginning of an expensive new fascination.
