It's taken a bit more planning than our normal holidays what with the different places to stay, sorting out ferry times and what we plan to visit, but thankfully it's all sorted out and next Wednesday we leave Aachen and head to Haggisland and the start of our 3 week holiday on the Western Isles.

  • Kick off at the Isle of Skye for a few days exploring parts we've yet to see
  • Ferry to Harris and Lewis, spend several days exploring the islands
  • Ferry to the Uists/Benbecula/Eriskay, yet more days here to explore
  • Ferry to Barra, spend a handful of days here
  • Ferry back to Skye for a final day and a bit before heading south again (Via Glasgow for a night)
  • Ferry from Dover, and drive back to Aachen
To say Mrs Baz is excited would be an understatement and a half, I'm slowly running out of valium to sedate her.

Hopefully between us we can get some nice shots on the various islands along the way.

Cheers Steve, the weather is the only thing we haven't taken care of, but with 3-5 days in most places we should at least get to see the main things on our "things to see" list and anything under this is a bonus wink

Harris has some of the best beaches in the UK. Pity the water is so cold.

The funny thing is from talking to my mum back in Glasgow while we've been putting the trip together I discovered that my grandpa (who's been gone for quite some years already) originally came from South Uist and that his family line has already been traced back to Flora McDonald....really random info I suppose for most of you, but it's gave me more of an insight into my family history along the way smile

We passed a Flora McDonald museum on S Uist - it's there somewhere.

Yeah and mum gave me the info on her grave near Kilmuir on Skye too smile

It's turning out to be more of a history lesson than a holiday, but it's all good wink

Did a similar trip a few weeks back. Loch lomand, Oban, Barra, Uists and Skye. Had some really good weather for Oban and Barra. We stayed in Flora MacDonalds cottage on Skye (http://www.flodigarry.co.uk/accommodation.asp).

Have decided to return sometime soon, but carry on to Harris and Lewis and spend a bit longer than a week!

We stayed there at Easter. (Dog friendly!)

Time's flown in since I posted this thread up, we head off tomorrow after work via Calais-Dover...will try and fire some pics up as we go through the next few weeks (when internet is available), so keep an eye out for the Monaro (reg is pretty self explanatory when you look at my username)...

If you're near Shieldaig on Saturday, it's the fete!

Ah poo, we leave Glasgow on Monday morning to head north...trying to find somewhere that has highland games on during the time we're over too (as Mrs Baz has yet to experience such madness) biggrin

You missed Applecross and Lewis last week - not sure when the Harris ones are.

Hope the weather is good!
