Some of you may identify with this - a sequence of shots from today culminating in a faceful of muddy gravel for a certain photographer who didn't turn away quite quickly enough paperbag

Great shots, worth the pain biggrin

And yes, I've been there too smile I know us speccys sometimes end up in slightly dodgy positions but that's what makes rallying so cool IMHO.

Great series of shots Ben!

Thanks for sharing. You can keep the mud though. biggrin

Love the "motion" feel to the last one.

Thanks for the comments - was definitely worth it, gotta take one for the team sometimes! Camera copped a bit of mud too but fortunately no stones. Thats why I always use filters though, much cheaper than replacing a lens if it does catch one!

That Audi is actually a replica rather than an original S1, built from a road Quattro and has the right engine but uses Subaru drivetrain bits for cost and reliability reasons.

The Catlins - near Owaka if you went there on your trip downunder? Stage map can be downloaded here if you're interested:

A driver arrived on foot at a spectator point asking for a hand to push his car out "its pretty well stuck but we can give it a go..."

Pretty well stuck...you don't say! rofl But with 6 or 8 of us, a rope and some gravel thrown under the wheels we did get it back on the road!

Gotta love it hehe

Heh heh, I've been around a few big offs over the years covering the national and WRC stuff and several face fulls of dirt, stones etc. When I did WRC Sardinia it was one of the worst places I had been to for dust, every time a car went past you would spend the next 30 seconds breathing through your t-shirt and then spending the next 20 seconds or so trying to blow any traces of dust off of the lens before the next car came through 5 seconds later biggrin

A few more from the day:

Overall I was having a bit of an off day photo-wise and the keep-rate was pretty low, but a few shots I like and more still to process when I find some spare time. Was much happier with the shots from the last rally ( http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a... ) but I guess thats life.
