One of my favourite photography books is NY JS DB 62.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/David-Bailey-NY-JS-DB/dp/3...

In 1962 David Bailey convinced Vogue to send him and Jean Shrimpton to New York. Armed with his 35mm camera and no lighting they took to the streets and shot fashion wherever they wanted free from the constrains of a studio where most fashion shoots were held. I love the atmosphere of the shots and the fact that passers by are sometimes included. Some of the shots have been scanned into this Flickr Set (not by me)...

Today I met up with a Polish model called Malwina and we were inspired to create some similar shots in the streets of Croydon. I've put these into a PDF, I'm not sure if this works as a way of sharing photos on a forum or not so I'd appreciate some feedback on that if nothing else. It works better in two page side by side mode, the file is just over 4mb.

Enjoy...

Nice shots, I like the style.

As to the PDF - I think it works ok if you want to get total control over the way the images are viewed. In this case I think they could use a border around them, perhaps more of the photobook feel. The subject matter seems similar enough to me for some of the pairs to blur into each other.

I looked at the pdf !

Interesting way of doing it.

Makes it difficult to comment on one particular image, as you cant do this so easily :

^^^I really like this, but then I am a sucker for uniformity.

Although the set is not really my thing style wise, I like the overall feel of it, and its been shot and composed very well.

In summation - Good work, but more cars please !

wink

Oh, and please can you number the shots when posting, makes it much easier to comment on.... Ta !

Thats interesting as I thought this set has some of your best portrait work now the cars have been taken out of the shot.

Feels much better, the focus is on the model in the location. Compared to say the Betty Bones set, in comparison it looks like you werent sure whether to shoot the car or the model in a few of them.

Agree with Furyous - that shot with the tower block really stood out for me as a special one (when I read the pdf smile ) Some of the best photographers on here rarely take cars so I don't see that as an issue. I like the rest although in this one

the fill in flash is rather obvious (thought you weren't using artificial light biggrin ).

Thanks guys smile

Yes it makes a big difference not having a car to shoot too, I'd like to do some more work like this. We umed and arred about including a bear in the shots like Bailey but I didn't want it to be a complete rip off just an inspiration. HTF I meant studio lights tongue out But you got me, that was one of the first shots and I was struggling to get the feel of the lighting. It always seems to take while to get "warmed up", it didn't help that I forgot all my memory cards so we had to make a quick trip back to my house first rolleyes

Thanks Graham smile To show that cars are never far from my mind the office block in that shot is home to quite a few car magazines (IPC Media) such as Volksworld smile
