Have been having this problem with my D50 for about a year now, i wasnt really caring about it before as i was planning on buying a new camera soon. But as my thoughts turn towards buying a flat/house and getting out of renting i doubt it will be a long time until i buy a camera.

anyway the problem is i get large purple bands across images quite regularly, this only used to happen occasionally but nowadays about 90% of images i take have this problem which is severely limiting my ability to take photos. If its repairable i would do it as i am happy with the D50 as it produces great results when working fine. I have attached an image showing the problem. I have also tried different memory card's just in case it was a problem with the camera writing the images to them.

I'm going to take a guess that your UV filter is fecked. Whip the lens off, stick it in Bulb/cleaning mode or 30 second exposure and see what happens when the mirror goes up

It'll need repair whatever it is, and if you dont fancy it you can send it off to Nikon for a quote. If you dont accept they'll send it back recorded, if you do they'll probably take about 2-3 weeks to fix. Wouldnt have thought more than £100 to sort out

ah balls, figured id probably have to send it away.

dont know if its really worth repairing a D50 thats almost 3 years old now for any substantial amount of money.

Get a Fuji instead, or a D80 smile
