Has anyone ever been to a wedding where they have found that during the ceremony, the photographer has been too intrusive and has just been in the face of the bride and groom too much, and always in shot for other people wanting to take shots? I noticed it at the time, but I'm backing up some photos from the last couple of months and at a recent wedding of a family member, the photographer they hired (I think he might have been a friend into it) was far too intrusive. It was only a small room (about 40 guests) and he was clambering around them, taking shot after shot instead of being in the background. More than twice he jumped over the back of the bride's dress as he was struggling to get around and in a lot of shots I tried taking, his face is all over them!

Whats the secret to staying in the background, yet ensuring you have the right photos from the ceremony?

Certain photographers will get in your shots on purpose, especially if you have a decent SLR. If your shots are good enough then the bride and groom will buy very few of theirs.

I wasnt really thinking about it from a selfish point of view, more from that of the B&G. I know that they didnt say anything to him, but I wasnt the only one who noticed that he was all over them and the camera was literally in their face at times during the ceremony. I'm surprised that the registrar didnt say anything!

He's just doing his job.

Alot of photographers will sit back and take shots from a distance but it may be the the b&g have asked for close up photos or a mixture of both.

I went to a wedding the other day where the photographer didn't want us to smile. At all. In any of the photos.

Here was me thinking weddings were a happy day!

The correct etiquette is as follows, the Bride/Groom would brief the Best Man on what they require from the Photographer, remembering that you only get what you pay for and they know what to expect,Its is then the Best Mans resposibility along with the rest of his duties to ensure everything runs smoothly including removing the Photographer if he is being too intrusive.

Unfortuneatly few people that accept the role of Best Man realise the many duties they are resposible for.
