i was informed that this lens would be a decent purchase for my Nikon d5000 as i look to start out taking some sports images but wanted to run it past the PH faithful first, any thoughts?
Do you mean the Nikon version? I think it would be fine for a starter telephoto, yes. If you outgrow it after a while you can always sell it and spend more on a better one - see how it goes.
