Can anyone help me, if it is possible, to increase the resolution of a photo to have it blown up.

Or am I being a thicky and will it not be possible to increase the resolution?

How many Mp are you starting with and how big do you want to go?

Honestly have no idea.

I tried to upload it via tesco as we have had a few scenic pics blown up there and it was a good service. The pic I have now is a present for my sister and was taken by someone else.

The image details say the following:

pixels 1472x2000
horizontal and vertical resolution 100dpi
bit depth 24
resolution unit 2

does that mean anything?

If it helps the pics I have had blown up without issue were 7mp in size.

Really depends on how big you want the canvas.

Give Tim at Fluid Images (www.fluid-images.co.uk) a shout (he posts on here), he will be able to tell you for certain, but I think you should be fine with that resolution.

Oh, and stop using Tesco for canvas prints!

A decent print shop should be able to enlarge an image of any size massively using raster to vector enlargement(i believe thats the correct term anyway)

I gave an image to Tim at Fluid Images from a D40 with a slight crop. I'd shot it in jpeg and I think the final result was less than 1.5 meg, 3000x2000.

I think he ran it through Genuine Fractals for a 30x40'ish sort of size. It's ace, been hanging on my chimney breast for a couple of years

From 7Mp it's already been reduced - a 7Mp image should be more than 3000px wide - can you get the original image?

But you still haven't told us how big you want the print to be.

Thanks for the responses. I can get hold of the original tomorrow so resolution shouldn't be an issue anymore but I need it a week earlier than I thought so I will try the suggestions on this thread rather than tesco.

Chris - email me the image, and I'll run it through Genuine Fractals to get to the size you need - tim@fluidimages.co.uk
