Surely they've got the wrong end of the stick here? The reason you are restricted from photographing within Canary Wharf is nothing to do with the anti-terrorism laws, but rather that it's private property that the owners don't allow (professional) photography on.

Yes and no. Given the sensitivity of Canary Wharf to terrorist attacks, if the security people there were OK to let it happen (and they had fair advance warning) then it suggests that maybe they're acknowledging the rather draconian restrictions on photography, albeit not actually supporting the photographers per se.

Besides, they'll have all the 'perps' on CCTV so they can deal with them later.... wink

A friend and I got asked to leave Canary Wharf by a security guard when we were trying out a medium format camera for uni. He told us it's because "people get a bit worried when they see people with cameras around here especially after 9/11" It seemed odd to us since there were plenty of people with compacts and video cameras yet the 2 students with the house brick sized hasselblad were apparently more suspicious!!

I've had a CW security chap say to me as he walked past "you should really have a permit to take photographs here you know".

Funny he didn't say anything to the big group of tourists that had just emerged from the Jubbly line station and were snapping away
