Living right by the sea I've been waiting for a stormy day for a while to get down there and take some shots, well today was my day.
There was a good rough sea with periods of bright light and some duller light but when I look at the pictures now I feel disapointed by them. They don't seem to have any depth (pun kind of intended) to them or show any of the real movement.
I've tried them in black & white but still feel let down.
Any ideas guys?

Take it this is digital?
Can you post one?
Shooting blind, I'd suggest more dramatic shots by using a long lens to get into the surf, then maybe put the camera on a tripod and use a longer shutter speed to get some movement? Just ideas.

I'll stick them all on my website, then perhaps I could get some feedback?

Was updating it. Try now.

Go to www.final-design.com then to the pictures page and there is a link to 'Stormy Seas'

Can never get the links to work

Nothing happening...
domain463572.sites.inetproducts.com doesn't appear to exist (at least from where I'm standing)

I can see the pics, but I am in no position to offer advice as I am only a photography begginer.

if it was print film i would try black and white film with a very grainy resolution to get the feel of storms, and under expose to get a dark moody feel

Contrast. I think that's the answer.

How about..

...or even take your most interesting sky, and put it with your most interesting sea?

Thanks Guys,

Simpo, what did you change?

Steve, How did you stitch them together?

Tim, Contrast! I'll have a fiddle.

I had thought about messing with the colours, I have Photo Shop Pro and Paintshop Pro but am still trying to work out what does what.
I was using Paintshop last night and managed to get the sunlight green which looked quite spooky.

I would liked to have got closer to the sea too but it was crashing so close to me I was getting soaked!

Thanks again chaps, keep the lessons coming!

InPhotoShop 6:
1) Made horizon level (Image/Rotate canvas)
2) Increased contrast a little (Image/Adjust/Brightness/contrast)
3) Selected sky and decreased brightness (I think - it was last night!)
4) Took out green cast (Image/Adjust/Colour balance)
5) Used Dodge Tool with suitable brush size to lighten wave crests.
6) Used clone tool to remove (helicopter?) on horizon.
6) Sharpened image (Filter/Sharpen/Sharpen).

That was all! Basically just poke around with brightness/contrast, colour balance and a few toys until you like what you see

Probably, but no more than messing around in a dark room with film prints.

Only like in the film industry where editing, adding music, special effects etc is also probably cheating.

To stitch... in Paintshop Pro

Start a new image... make it twice the size of your images.

Open your first image (in this case the sky)

Copy and paste (Ctrl V & Ctrl E) onto the new image

Open the second image (the sea)

Use the selection tool (there are many, experiment) to select the sea (I just used a rectangle for yours)

Copy and paste into the new image.

Bob's your uncle (well he probably isn't... actually he's my uncle, but that's another post).
