wat a fking crock of crap

"Hi,

Your topic 'Whats it worth?' has been removed for the following reason:

Sorry for the deletion, but please check out the classifieds for suitable comparisons or put a free ad on to test the water.

www.pistonheads.com/sales

Regards,
PistonHeads"

I was asking for feedback from people in the know rather than looking on the classifieds there was absoluely no need at all to remove my thread. I was seeking input as to the valuations NOT to advertise my wares for sale.

This site at times, especially the nazi style moderations is a joke.

Not normally being one to defend the mods (eg the 4hero incident) but asking for a "valuation" on bits is one of the oldest forum tricks in the book to a wide range of targeted buyers know what you're selling.

While you were innocently asking, hundreds others wouldn't have been so honest with their intent which is why this rule is in place.

Chicken & egg this one! If the camera related classifieds were good and they're not people would use them. Personally, I can't see any reason for not using the forum to at least point to the classifieds if not directly soliciting PM's. We're actually providing a service that way until the classifieds start to deliver traffic. I have tried selling a Sigma 10-20mm and a D50 (when it was marketable) in the past and didn't get anywhere and I know the 10-20mm fly of the sheves in Camera SH shops.

I'd agree. PH Classifieds is great for cars but nobody goes there for anything else. It might do better if it was at the top of this forum headed 'Kit for Sale and Wanted' - I wonder if that would be possible?

Furthermore, I can quite see why the powers-that-be would want to kill forum 'advertising' if PH Classifieds carried a fee - but it doesn't... so given the choice of advertising your kit in (a) a place where nobody looks, or (b) in a place where quite a lot of people look, the latter would seem mroe sensible.

seems on this one our minds work differently. PRior to putting gear for sale (which I would do but not on the classifieds here for camera gear, cars yes) I would seek a proper valuation. That is all I was after

can't see that would ever work, if you had that on the photography forum, you would have to do it for every other forum on here, there is IMHO a perfectly good classifieds section (we bought our last camera body on there). the thread that was removed was no different to any of the other 'how much is it worth' threads that get removed from PH on a daily basis

Well, the 'non-motoring' section headings are currently:

Boats
Computers & Stuff
Flying Machines
Other
Pedal Powered
Photography (contains a stonking 4 items)
Services
Watches

Moving (or duplicating) one or more of these sections to where people are more likely to use then is my suggestion. You don't have to 'do it for every other forum' - that's just a negative get-out phrase. First rule of selling - put your product where people are looking - so put it where more people will use it, and then it will keep rolling smile

No we wouldn't

for cars yes, camera stuff absolutely not. I certainly don't subscribe to the '5 current adverts equates to perfectly good classified' camp. In fact I nearly spat my coffee out at your suggestion have more than that I'd trade from my own kit. If people actually frequented it; buying AND selling I would use it. Until then my chums on PH loose out. From my perspective its time for mature pragmatism rather than principled pettiness. So, for the record I like putting a link to the Camera classifieds on the top of the page to try and generate traffic. Until then I have for sale ..... smile

anyway if some jumped up mod wasnts to completely stifle such questions then that is fine but it wasnt an advert for my kit, it was a question about value when I come to sell (not here).

Whoever the anonocop was then fair play but I can find countless threads (if I could be arsed) similar to mine that dont get pulled. You either enforce a rule to all or none

Why can they not put a sticky link to the classifieds at the top of each relating thread?

The animod was me, a report came in sometime yesterday, a member of HM and a couple of mods were discussing your thread. The decision to close came from that report. When I looked in later in the evening the thread was still running so I duly closed it. It wasn't just one of the mods on a power trip
HM were also in agreement with it's closure.

The animod type email is just an automatic pleasantry we mods to keep members informed as to what's happened to the thread. We delete many of these threads daily some do slip through the net, if you see any then please report and we will take the necessary action.

HTH.

i cant believe how petty the site is, we now get reports on threads asking for valuations? FFS seriously I question the sheer bloody mindedness of some members at times

Suggest you take it up with Hatmarket if you feel you're being singled out.
