Hi

This is my first venture into the Photography section of PH and I will freely admit to being way out of my depth frown

I have acquired a Praktica 35mm camera and was wondering what the demand was for stuff like this.

Photography is not my thing so I see no point in keeping it or the filters and lenses that came with it.

Is 35mm dead now the digital has arrived?

What make are the lenses? If they're Pentax then someone will want them, but even those aren't worth more than a very few quid. Somebody might be interested in the body if it's one of the LTL or MTL series, but if it's a B-anything then probably not.

Best bet is probably to Ebay the whole lot as a kit - or if you can't be bothered with that, give it to a charity shop.

Amazon marketplace has a reasonable turnover in 35mm SLR.

They are a requirement for a lot of Art degrees.

+1 My AS-level in photography required one, just went on eBay and there seemed to be plenty going about.

The LTL/MTL series would be a good choice for a student. I have long suspected that they were 'inspired' by the Nikon F - if you examine the two cameras side by side (ignoring the pentaprism), the dimensions, control layout, weight and feel are very similar indeed.

The camera is a Praktica MTL5

The lens in it has Tessar 2.8/50 Carl Zeiss jena DDR writen on it and 299743
The medium lens has Hanimex Auto Zoom 75-150mm 1:4.5 macro 49 No 753415
The Large lens has Carl Zeiss Jena F=75~300mm 1:4.5~5.6 Marco Jenazoom II 58
This lens has a leather case

Screwed to the bottom of the big lens is a Regent Auto Tele converter 2x

There is also a pack of 8 Hunter Universal effects filters and "stuff"

All that means nothing to me.

The camera looks in pretty good nick - hope it finds a good home.

The only way to tell if the lenses are any good would be for the buyer to try them out. Iirc the Zeiss Jena lenses were pretty variable - some specimens were pin sharp, and then the next lens off the production line would be decidedly ho-hum. The Tessar is a classic lens design, so that could easily perform rather well. I wouldn't be expecting great things from the Hanimex, tbh.

eBay is the only way if you want to sell fairly quickly. If you presented it well then you might see £30 for it. I still use Nikon film camera's and pay very little for them. All the students have started their courses and would have bought back in the summer - I did anyway...
