Has anyone used one of these - an 'Eye-Fi Home Wireless 2GB SD Card'. I'm thinking of using one in the SD slot of my D300s, setting the card slot to be the CF 'backup' and using up Lightroom on the laptop to auto import from the SD card picture folder. The distance between camera and laptop would only be about 3 metres tops. On paper it should work. Anyone have any experience of using them?

TIA

Cheers

Well, finally got one and set it up. I needed to connect the laptop to the wifi router by fire[?]wire and set the card up but it wasn't hard. The card works fine as long as there's a router it can connect to. If there isn't the manager software can't be accessed.

The range from the router is similar to the laptop itself.

I tried it on my D80 and D300s with no problems, downloading files to a folder that lightroom is set up to auto import from. The only issue I can see at the moment is it can't wifi directly to the laptop so isn't a 'portable' setup in that sense - can't be used in a studio for example unless I can fathom it out. I will try my mobile as the internet link though.

Also seems to keep thumbnails on the site until i manually delete. Bit cheeky that!

I think they do a 'pro' version that doesnt need the use of a router, it will link direct to a laptop or wifi connection, from the write up anyway. I am possibly interested in one of these too so will be curious to know how you get on.

I can find a Nikon WT-3 wireless transmitter/grip for the D200 but not the D300... seems odd.

I think its called the wt-4a IIRC and it isn't cheap. If you have a network to piggy back the above card suffices for £49.99.

That'll be the one to get then. I'm impressed so far.

A wireless CF card for the D200 might be handy - but the only ones I could find seemed to date from 2003 and had a lump on the end, so not much use in a camera!

not the eye-fi ones - same size as a normal SD card. Fits in my D80 and D300s perfectly.

what you'd need to do is fit the card into a SD-CF adaptor and use in the D200 - assuming its CF only.

For the D300 (and D300s/D700/D3/D3x) you need the WT-4.
Yep, found that:

- but I was curious to see if they did a 'strap-under' one. Seems they don't.

These are great. Did a home studio shoot at the weekend and had 150 pictures popping up in lightroom as I took them. Easy to check lighting, composition focus etc. Didn't have to manually download after either making workflow so much easier. The card version I have doesn't transmit RAW / NEF files but the pro one does. It actually transfers the image so it only stores on the card what it can't transmit so I set the D300s up to record RAW on the CF card and JPEG on the SD.

It good!
