Some of you may remember me asking a long time ago about advice for shooting at my sister's wedding. After taking a lot of advice I suggested to her that she employ a professional to take official shots, and I would take the best that I could - having only had my DSLR a few months. In total I took nearly 400 photos on the day - operating with my Canon 350D and standard 18-55mm lens.

Here are some of my favourite shots - quite a few I know, C&C welcome! I've done very little post-processing, just cutting out a few details here and there.

Just an observation wink , but are you around 7ft tall?
You seem to be looking down on most people.

I think, aside from composition and a couple of other technicalities surrounding WB and exposure, my biggest fear had I been in your shoes would have been height difference between camera, groom and bride. Thats something you really cant change after the event with PS tools.

How did the pro get on? I'm guessing there'd have been quite a few sat down or with the groom slightly forward? Simpo Two might be a good contributor to this one seeing as he shoots Big Days

Only other one I think I'd pick out is with multiple photographers, only one person shooting at any one time. You're shooting someone else's shot and you'll find in some cases with a few people, one will spot you, look to camera and no-one else will. Ruins 2 shots

I'm a little taller than the Bridge, and a fair bit taller than the groom. I hadn't realised that came across so much in the photos until looking back now.

The pro photographer was OK but often seemed to get in my way (and me vice-versa) - is this usually a problem!?

Just a question of timing. If both tog and guest-with-DSLR need the same spot, then it's polite to let the tog go first because that's what he's paid to be there doing. In my experience they usually sense this - probably what actors call 'controlling the stage'. I can then get a photo of Uncle Phil in action as well, and usually the remaining horde of happy snappers smile

I've never had any problems with Uncle Phils, in fact I often make a point of having a natter with them.

2, 12 & 16 look really good.

The groom bares an uncanny resemblance to a chap who works in the service department of my local VW dealership!
