Hi guys want some new bits. This is how its looking so far....

Wireless triggers... Need ideas

reflector holder... ebay, 1.6m £25

2 umbrellas... ebay, £6.99 each with mount. white and silver

Light stand... need two cheap ones really?

Is this the cheapest and the best I can go or should I look aswell?

Any ideas and help welcomed.

You're mentioning prices a lot - if this is budget driven it may not mean whats best for your needs.

Eg: triggers. I tried ebay cheapies, others swear by them, didnt work as often as I wanted them too. Looked at Skyports, settled on Pocket Wizards in the vain hope they're really going to bring out a TTL Nikon option.

I did go cheap with light stands though hehe Amazon, £15 IIRC, and a couple of tent pegs in the bag assuming I'm not shooting on conrete. There's also a few S fit brackets popping up at the moment for speedlights, I've tried my SB900 through my Interfit softbox and it works a treat. Going to try the beauty dish on it over the weekend. About £30 from ebay for the mount.

5 in 1 reflectors from WHE are good value, again I think ebay would be a safe bet

This is assuming you need all this crap though (my past mistakes coming back to haunt me)

Well from what I hear the 285hv isnt a bad way to go. I ve done the ebay cheapy triggers and thinking cactus with the essential mods.

How tall are the stands? Just need cheapy things to play with until after chrimbo

Whats an S fit bracket? does that support the locking mechanism? if so I think a few holes in a standard bracket would work?

Yeah already have my reflector just need something to hold it hence the stand lol.

Want to try some model stuff so kind of essential things to pick up?

Konig light stands from 7dayshop or amazon, about £12 and surprisingly good. Not so good in windy conditions though, would need a sandbag or similar.

^^ Tentpegs are a good idea

+1, they're 6ft plus tall.

For the reflector, if you're convinced you need this static I'd stick aim to use a couple more light stands (cheap and will help you out if you continue adding lights) and some sort of versatile clamp (Manfrotto do some but you might be able to produce a DIY hack). Having said that, a reflector can catch the wind like no-one's business so absolutely weigh your stands down.

This is all very interesting as I want to do that same sort of stuff, but most of what's been written is way over my head at the moment.

Just looked into those light stands. may go that way. got a couple on ebay watch atm.

Seems like a good idea. Found this one with the stand included. doesnt seem to bad? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&am...

I wouldn't want to put a light on that stand outside for fear of it blowing over. And reflectors are almost as fickle as lights so if it's still standing after a gust, chances are it'll be in the wrong place.

The trick I've found with reflectors outdoors is either to have a voice activated stand or tie it to something that wont be taken away with the smallest gust of wind.

When I was talking earlier about S fit brackets, it means the modifiers I use on studio flash will also be fine with a flash gun. So my beauty dish for example, or a snoot, or a softbox. No idea what the light'll be like given the size difference in the lightsource but saves having to buy new stuff just for flashes
