hi,
I have just got a Nikon d300s and although it does bracketing and multi exposure
it doesn't seem to take 3 shots simultaneously at 3 different exposures like my d70s does.
I use this feature for HDR and would be a bit disappointed if the d300s hasn't got this facility.
Has anyone else done HDR with this camera?

thanks, Barry

What he said. Autobracket is your friend. Use that.

Indeed. 3 or 5 or 7 ... you'll need to actuate the shutter how ever many times, bracketing as you go.

from the d70s manual I think this is how I use to do it.

Camera creates up to three images each time shutter is released,
“bracketing” current white balance setting ( 92). Only one
shot is re quired to complete bracketing sequence. Recommended
when shoot ing under mixed light ing or experimenting with
different white balance settings.

you have to press it 3 times

it takes the correctly exposed one, then the under exposed (by however much you set it), then the over exposed one ....

read the manual...!

edit to add -- the 3 times bit refers to the fact that 3 is the max number of exposures that you can bracket with on this camera --

The D300 has a scroll wheel on the top right for single or continuous shooting, plus live view and the self timer I think. I dont know if the S has this, if it does try sticking it on C and holding down the shutter

you do not have to press it 3 times you only press it once to produce 3 images.
I have done this dozens of times. If you had to press it 3 times then the only
way would be with a tripod surely?

Gentlemen: I fear you may be confusing 'white balance bracketing' with 'exposure bracketing'. The camera can create the former from a single exposure, but not the latter, which requires three seperate exposures.

Lucas - Aimed at OP - My point being that the D70 is obviously a blinder of a camera, as with the D50, D1, D1x, D2, D2x and D3 I've had to take more than one shot to bracket to digital blend or HDR

Maybe I just need to read the manual.

Ah... just found it!

"Only one photograph is produced each time the shutter is released, meaning that several shots are required to complete the bracketing sequence".

I am indeed mixing up white balance bracketing with exposure bracketing
but it still gave acceptable results with HDR though

If the D70s is anything like the D70, then the exposure bracketing goes (eg) -1, 0, +1 but it applies the change to each consecutive exposure. This is a bh when you forget you set exposure bracketing, resort to single shots, and wonder why your exposures are all over the place.

It would be nice if you could set exposure bracketing, then hit the tit and it would fire off three shots, then shut up. But it doesn't, it will simply cycle through the sequence. From discovering this, I adopted +/- EV instead, so that I'm back in control and not the camera. But then, I don't do HDR. (Well I do, sort of, but from a single RAW image)

like newer cameras (i suspect), you can also set it to just overexpose, for example -- +1, +2 etc

The D70s is a good old beast,,,, just over 20k on the clock so far.....

Unless I'm missing the point, on the D200 you set the exposure bracketing to either 3 or 5, turn bracket mode on and then set continuous shooting on the focus mode selector, on the front of the camera and the mode dial to either CL or CH, then press and hold the button for the burst shot. I've just checked it at CH on the camera and it's giving 5 frames at -2 -1 0 +1 +2 exposure!

But of course I May be right up sh-t creek without a paddle! hehe

^^ That sounds right to me. However it's not intuitive to set up or activate - definitely 'read the manual' if you want to understand this aspect.
