I'm sure a few on here will empathise with this situation.

As I do this as a hobby I work a lot putting time and effort in with a lot of people or "models". Its partly the problem of operating such a way you end up with the sort that are 100% contact/commitment until you give the work and bham you hear nothing back.

Its disappointing but its life, I get something they get something so everyone is happy. Foolishly I randomly send messages to keep in contact and often I get replies and its good as I get repeat work but then today one of the non-repliers just drops on to tell me to remove images with a tone that smacked of a bloody petulant upstart.

I was happy to actually hide some as they were wk shots but the others she can swing for, she used them when it suited and now tells me to remove them. I got a bit upset as I personally hate the sort of person that is lke that, plus the huge insult to myself so I gave her a quick reply stating exactly my thoughts.

Its actually a reason I've completly left that scene but still something like this, as sorry as it is to say, fkin hurt big time. I guess it was made worse as I never in a million years imagined the girl would have done it. I probably over reacted a bit but its been one after another lately and it stings when I've invested so much time and money to try to get going so had to rely on these types in teh past.

rant over, guess my point is for us start outs to stop being taken for mugs

It doesn't excuse lack of manners, but if you're honest were the photos crap?

It may be that you are intelligent and most wannabe models aren't.

File it under 'older and wiser' and move on, I think.

Stig, sorry to hear of the problems with this particular model, there is always going to be those who you'll never be able to help. You should be proud of the work you have done with the models you have worked with, the odd rotten apple is to be expected. The pain is that it happens at all and especially when it's not what you would expect.
Be assured that there will still be plenty of 'people' who will be pleased to work with you, it may be that with your current portfolio you can now be more selective as to whom you work with.

Chin up and keep up the good work

Tell her to fk off.

They're your images to use how you want.

actually the ones she wanted deleting were the weakest from her set. I've since chatted to her and its blown over but I probably burnt the bridge with her. Understandably at the minute I am concentrating on how much I've sank into things so a little touchy when it comes to work.

I'm a little confused. If it's a hobby, and you don't want to make any money out of it why are you worried about the money spent on it? I see you in some of the strobist groups on flickr - you've got some good friends out of your hobby, why worry about a 2 bit model.

Indeed; I was confused as to whether it was a hobby or work, and whether it was done for free or not, but avoided the subject earlier.

If it's a hobby and you stop enjoying it, then stop doing it. No point spending your spare time being miserable! Plus, hobbies cost money, they don't make money.

If however it's work and you're paid for it, too bad!

That may seem harsh but I feel those are the facts once you filter out the emotion.

Oh yes, and never send e-mails when you're cross - sleep on it smile

ETA: Plus, there are always unpleasant, dishonest people who will exploit good-natured, trusting people - the trick is only to get caught once.

For what it's worth Stiggers, I gave up way before I ever got as far as you, for the exact reason you stated. Loads of contact, loads of effort on my part, then I would never hear anything at all back.

I like to think the photos I took aren't so dreadful, in at least two cases they are displayed on desks or walls. It's just no-one ever bothered to reply to me or even acknowledge the stuff I did for them after it was done.

It soon started to feel like too much effort and so I stopped. Now I just take photos for myself.

biggrin I've invested money and effort towards a goal which is not yet to be realised. The "2 bit" was actually one of the best girls I've worked with, very natural and well mannered it was just caught at the wrong time of the month for me I guess.

Heard it a few times, never experienced it

Usually there's a new b/f involved or something along those lines

ordinarily I wouldnt have flipped but had a few bad weeks here recently so had PMS. She was also one of my favourites too which tends to make me take things personal if I like em.

Chin up me old mucker! Sorry to hear of what has happened. Some people are just plain rude. Others are really insulting. I blame it on their ignorance and lack of manners.

Anyhow. All I can advise, if you haven't done so already, is to get all your models to sign a model release form. When taking shots for my MA I got all the people in the photographs to sign a model release. Whilst one or two of them may have not been happy with the results they accepted that they had given me permission to use the images and nothing further was said.
