You see this is the difference between muppet 'togs like me who pretty much hang our cameras up once winter's here, and proper 'togs who simply regard bad weather as another opportunity. Excellent shot. Love the way you've caught the blurred rain without it being too prominent.

It wasn't quite what we had planned we had to improvise smile I had to add the rain effect though, I couldn't capture it like that with a flash.

Another..

Had me fooled jester I guess with rain that heavy you wouldn't get the reflections like you have. Well executed effect though.

It was actually raining, to the point where I had to wipe the lens between each shot, but you couldn't see the rain in the photos smile

Rain is notoriously difficult to capture.

You need backlighting a dark background and LOTS of water.

The rain makers you see in film production generate much heavyer rain that you'll see in nature.

ive heard of some productions actually using an additive in the water as well, to make it much more 'globular' so it shows up better.

that last photo posted, with the jump and reflection, is just superb.

Would you mind sharing your lighting technique on these?

Thanks for the feedback.

Lighting for these was a Vivitar 285 triggered by Yongnuo triggers that I've just bought to replace the PT04 triggers I have, the Yongnuos are much better. Just one flash with a light stand.

thats another corker - the colours are fantastic, and the tone in her skin is lovely.

Your work goes to show, you don't need to over complicate things- one flash, placed carefully, can be all you need.

An arri lighting course i went on a while ago spent a whole day just on the key light - where you place and why, experimenting with lighting people with round faces, narrow faces, what you do when someone's got a wonky nose etc etc, and it was some of the most important lessons ive learned.

Must buy a flash and some triggers. I'm used to lightning for video and film, but have never dabbled in the art of the strobe.

will have a look into that vivitar and triggers that you mentioned, cheers thumbup
