I have a Samsung Digimax 230 with a dismal 2mp. It about the size of half a house brick and eats 4 AA batteries like you would not belive so I am in the maket for a new compact camera.

Looking to spend between £100 - £200. Not really bothered by too many features but zoom would be good.

My Panasonic TZ3 has been replaced by the TZ6 these days, it's the same basic lens and is fantastic - £189 at Warehouseexpress.

My ixus 100is is the best 'gadget' I think I've ever bought, small enough to use anywhere and brilliant results with both photos and videos.

The Panasonic Lumix DMC FX60.

12mp, 5x optical zoom. Fast shutter lag, only 0.23s no flash and 0.52 with flash. So that you can capture things that might decide to move. Around £180-200.

Not bad at £161 (£131 with £30 cashback)

Whats the size like, can you pop it into a pocket or it a bit big? Battery life?

Can anyone offer an opinion on the Fujifilm Finepix S1500? It can be had for £124 - £129 at Jessops and John Lewis etc and seems rather alot of camera for the money?

We have another compact camera for out and about easy shots, just wondering if this would be handy to capture better shots when you don't mind having something a bit cumbersome with you (it is tiny but obviously isn't going to fit in your pocket without someone wondering if you're excited/just happy to see them!). Is it too good to be true at this price, as the reviews and test shots are quite impressive and it looks more fun than a traditional compact.

I have taken about 300 shots so far (only had is a few weeks) on a pair of NiMH rechargeable 2700mAh AA's and they are still going strong

these are the type I use in everything, I have about 20 of them

Ps. I always look at compact camera's shutter lag times, nothing worse that taking a photo outside or inside with a flash and getting a blurry image because of some movement due to slow reactions from the camera to capture the images. The lag due to the processing, not shutter speed.

Here's the list in order of fast to slow single shot (no flash time) flash times are given in the individual reviews. Along with photo examples, prices and other details.
