Am I missing something or are these the world's most pointless gadget?

Almost every shop you go in is selling them as if they were some kind of must have item, but I can't see what on earth you're supposed to do with them. Ok, well I can see what you do with them but if someone gave me one as a gift I'd be utterly underwhelmed if you get what I mean?

Any other pointless things that shops seem to think we all must have?

I've just purchased two as gifts for the grandparents, pre-loaded them with pictures of my new baby and other family stuff.

Neither set of grandparents are techy and all photos these days are digital so i thought it was a nice gift.

Wouldn't have one myself though.

Do you not have any photographs around your house? Do you never feel like changing them for different ones, but don't have the space for lots of photo-frames?

We have one, admittedly we don't update it that often as it can be a chore. Some of the newer ones are good, they can stream images from a DNLA device.

I bought the wife one. At first she switched it on a lot. These days - only occasionally.

It's WiFi enabled so she can point it at a directory of pics.

I'd actually like one in our Lounge.

We get more use out of the Media Center PC under the TV though. You can do "slide shows" with that. On the 50" screen that's a nice, shared experience.

This is exactly what I've done. Except not with pictures of Bulletts wife. That would be weird....

We use the Teev for our pictures, so not a huge amount of point us having one...
