Camcorder advice
Discussion
Can anyone recommend a camcorder, preferably less than £300? The search facility is down, so I can't look at previous posts.
I'm still unsure as to what is the best memory option. It seems to me that it's all very well to have a 50Gb hard drive, but at some point the video images must be downloaded to a PC, and even then would soon exhaust that and so need downloading to a CD/DVD. That being the case, it might be best to get a camcorder with DVD drive storage instead. Help!
I've no brand loyalty, so would consider any type, but it would be nice to have a small one so that I don't make excuses for not taking it out with me. I had a look at the Sony SR37 in Jessops, but various reviews don't rate it highly.

I've got a Sony Handicam with hard drive - OK if you are taking "normal" video ;-)
However, if you wanted to mount it in a car for trackdays, or record live music (like I've been known to do - officially, of course) the vibration can cause it to go into error condition and stop recording.
(Probably because the buffer is full).
I now use Memory sticks as the vibration doesn't seem to cause the same issues.
I think a DVD version may have the same issue with the buffer......

Panasonic HDC-SD10 is approx £350, but has £50 cashback so long as you buy from one of their selected stores:

Bought one for Mrs Beano back in September. I know next to nothing about Camcorders, but was swayed by brand and features. It's a nice bit of kit, easy to use, good battery life, takes good footage of me catching fish and the nephew being what he is (a mad three year old - it's a bit like the telly advert) and generally does what it says on the tin, I think good value for the £££s (and we like it when we get good VFM!). At the time I got a free 12 Mb SD card (Amazon deal at the time) - seems "plenty" for "everyday" use. Generally I'd recommend one of these to anybody below super-know-what-they-are-doing-professional-and-stuff-level.http://www.panasonic.co.uk/html/en_GB/Products/Cam...
It's not like we're some budding GetCarter or something....
