AP photographer Emilio Morenatti takes pictures as he is carried on a stretcher out of the University of Maryland Medical Center's R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center to be transferred to the Kernan Orthopaedics and Rehabilitation Hospital in Baltimore, Tuesday Aug. 25, 2009. Morenatti, whose left foot was amputated after a bomb blast in Afghanistan, was transferred Tuesday to a rehabilitation hospital in Baltimore, where he will be fitted for a prosthesis. Great link. Thanks for sharing. smile

I have a question though. How would one go about taking a photo like this one? The shuttle was only between the camera and the sun for 0.8 seconds. Do you just have to use a very small aperture and a very fast shutter speed?

It's from the 3rd page.

I suspect a telescope and an ULTRA fast 'shutter-speed' (or more likely the digital equivalent of)...if you think that those objects are substantially <1% of the overall image-width, and to keep them (roughly) in-focus you'd need a shutter-speed ~100x quicker than that, you're looking at a maximum time of 0.8s x 0.01 x 0.01 = 0.00008, or 1/12,500. I'd guess that was actually set to 1/100,000.

PS - anyone think to check the EXIF?!? wink

Only looked at the first set so far, but some of them are absolutely brilliant. I'm still very early doors in learning photography, but I think that sometimes the biggest trick is not necessarily the technique, but spotting the actual photo that's going to stand out (the picture of the Chinese Navy marching illustrates my point).
