Afternoon all,

I’ve just got a canon 450D to start learning and playing about with, one thing that I’ve not found n the manual is about the EXIF data. To learn a bit about how each setting, shutter speeds etc I have been taking the same shot with a verity of settings. How do you get the EXIF data from the shots? Are they automatically saved as part of the picture when transferred to the computer?
Am only shooting in Jpeg if it matters
Thanks!

The EXIF data will be saved in the JPG's smile Just look at those images with the Canon DPP software (or other processing software e.g. Lightroom) and the info should be easily visible.

Depending on the operating system you are using, you may find that this info is also accessible by looking at the properties of the file itself.

Hope this helps.

Cheers.

Yes, it's automatically saved within the file, whatever format you use. Most photo editing or viewing software can read it. What program are you using?

Get the Opanda exif viewer here:
http://www.opanda.com/en/iexif/iexif_firefox.htm
plugs into firefox, just right click on any image you see and it will show you the exif, if available.

What operating system are you using? On Vista, the EXIF data is displayed whenever you select a photo. The DPP software is on the CD you get with the camera, oddly you can't download it!

I saw this on one of the threads earlier, is useful to help learn how others have taken the photos but I've not been able to find out the data from my own photos on my computer, maybe downloading to flixr i could use the firefox ext. but this seams a little long winded!

Right click on the photo in windows explorer (assuming you are using windows), select Properties, click on the Summary tab. If there is no information then the exif wasn't saved with the shot.

Once you're on the summary page click the advanced button. Works for me on XP
