Does anyone know where a copy of the instruction manual for the above lens can be obtained?

Probably obvious but I would try the Canon website or Ebay?
A question though, why exactly do you need the instructions on how to use a lens? Isn't it blindingly obvious?
I have this lens so maybe I can help if you can't find the instructions?

I have just bought one secondhand but there was no instruction book. I have tried the Canon site and various others but nothing so far. Basic principal is obvious but I would like to know a bit more about the IS and which setting does what.

Sorry havnt looked at any lens handbook.

IS is 2 stop, it takes 0.5-1 second to stabalise so try not to grab shots on the fly. It doesnt detect tripod so switch off when on one (or when shutter speed is high enough).

Focus distance - limits tracking in the event it looses focus, set it to 6.5m if you dont want to close focus (quicker focus on distance subjects).

AF - on/off. well..

Theres also the tension ring for zoom tension.

Ah yeah it has a 'mode 2' for IS too.

That disables IS in one direction so you can do panning shots.

Canon USA have far more manuals on the site than the UK one does for some reason.
