1. When i use XPs photo transfer wizard, the RAW Nef pics stay on the camera and arnt copied to the pc. How do i get them off?
2. I often use the wireless remote. Is there a way to stop the release mode reverting to the default 'single' shot mode after 2 mins or so?
3. When would i want to turn the VR on the lens off ?

Cheers !

Keep it simple - with the camera connected or via a card reader, browse to the images from your PC, then copy and paste them to a new folder on yuor hard drive.

If it's like the D70, I don't think so, but check the custom menu settings just in case.

When you don't need vibration reduction, or when you want a deliberate motion blur, or simply to save battery power - are three I can think of. Can be handy at 200-300mm but not much point on standards and wides IMHO.

Thanks man.

Another one for you.

Why am i getting odd internal reflections in low light shots EG:

The faint red dot and the blue sweep to the right are both artifacts.

Is it just the cheap lens ( Nikkor 18-55 VR ) ?

(ignore the terrible photo, i have lots of great ones....really i do...)

You're right, internal reflections. It's a function of the lens but I suspect all lenses are going to do it to a certain extent. You can sometimes mitigate it by re-composing the shot, or changing focal length - and also removing the UV filter if applicable - the fewer glass surfaces the better.

1. photo transfer wizard will only work with jpeg files, use Nikon Transfer or just copy the files by hand from the memory card.
2. Have a read through the manual, although I'm not too sure it's supposed to do that. D90 doesn't anyway.
3. Personally I don't bother turning it off, although some advocate turning it off when using a tripod. Battery lasts ages anyway.

As far as the artifacts. It's basically the same a lens flare. Notice it's an up side down 'ghost' of the image as it's reflected by the rear element and bounced back into the camera by the front. Not much you can do about it, all lenses will flare with very bright light, although advanced coatings can limit the effect. The kit lens isn't a bad lens by any means and is excelent value so is not really at fault.

Edit to add; saw Simpo suggests a UV filter making the flaring worse, which it would and I hadn't thought of.

You can set the time it takes to reset the remote shot mode. I don't have the camera on me at the mo so I forget where exactly it is, but mine's currently set to about 15 mins before it reverts. Have a dig around the settings menu, it's in there somewhere!
