Hi all, can anyone help with this mine field. I know nothing about Camcorders but have decided I want to give it a go. Its main use will be filming motorsport followed by grandchildren, I like the idea of not phaffing around with tapes so the hard drive is an option, are they like slr 6meg 8meg 10meg etc, I dont want to spend a fortune but I dont want to view film on 28" TV in little squares. So what do I need, not adverse to used stuff if you tell me what to look out for, £250 budjet, cheers all.

I know nothing about them either, so don't take much notice of me.

If you can stretch a little on your budget, this one is great. I bought one for Mrs Beano - similar sort of use to what you're describing.

They basically come in two resolutions, Standard definition (720 x 576) and high definition (1920 x 1080). High definition is only worth considering if you have the means to edit and then view the content as it takes a lot of time and effort and computing power to do it. Standard definition camcorders produce an image compatible with DVDs so are easily copied on to one for viewing in a normal DVD player. Definately go for one with a hard drive or SD card for storage and get a good optical zoom (dont confuse digital zoom).

ETA: you link looks like a nice SD model.
