So, this was quite unexpected! Winning January!

Thanks guyssmile

For February: well for me it's a bit of a new start - a, it was my birthday yesterday, b, I'm making some changes at work, and 3, I'm sitting in heathrow writing this on our way to New Zealand for a month - taking more camera gear than clothes! So looking forward to annoying the crap out of my girlfriend with my incessant snaping!

So, this months topic is 'New Beginings'

This can be motoring related or otherwise.

Good luck!

New beginnings..............

I'll start the discussion with the only thing that comes to mind at the moment, the beginning of this years peach crop.

Just learning to use the shallow DOF of the 50mm f1.8

Peach blossom from the orchard this evening.

Just killing some time in Singapore Airport - man does this place make heathrow look like something from Cold War USSR!

Like the Narrow DOF shot Hairy... I treated myself to a 50mm prime late last year. My biggest failing is resisting the temptation to shoot everything wide open, which reults in a bit of bokeh saturation in the old protfolio!
\
Anyway - better go stand in line like a sheep.

Craig.

Have a nice holiday mate smile. Good choice of theme.

not sure if my entry is a bit hard (steady!), eternity ring for mrs to celebrate birth of our first hence "new beginnings", thought picture of either little 'uns would be a bit literal for PHers.

Any C&C welcome as found this suprisingly hard first proper close up/tripod attempts, and harder still to get that "ping" of light on the ring without blowing the lot.

As it is such a beautiful day, I'm going to go play with the camera to see if I can get anything worthwhile for my first entry, but in the meantime; here's one I took 2 years ago the day Bast & Chilli moved in with me...

Is it safe? You go first!!

That is a beautiful ring. Congratulations!

As for the shot itself, I'd play around with diagonal lines and experiment more with depth of field. Have a look in some of the glossies, especially women's magazines. I was admiring an advert in 'Marie Claire' earlier today for engagement rings. There are a few specks in the background to your shot that are a little distracting. Maybe try a white background for a cleaner, fresher look.

Thanks for the feedback, was on limited time so got various DOFs but only one "ping" on the ring, will play with little hologen light over torch as disappointed with the diamonds as in real life are amazing colours, have a white box will try that (the black one is a little old hence the specs, plus only a little tweak with light curves in CanonDPP, I shouldn't be so lazy!).

Lovely ring and a great picture.

Now this is such an interesting topic, so many directions to go in. I am having a play with a few ideas. Will post some picures shortly for C&C.

Never entered before... Does the shot have to have been taken during February?

Good stuff guys...

Andy - no, the shot can be from your back catalogue, or something you have taken specifically for the comp. Your choice smile

Craig.

I'm still a total beginner and take no offence if this is no where near good enough, but I got these flowers as a house warming - a new beginning for me!
