Afternoon all,

I finally got round to getting an DSLR after debating it for too long, here are a few of the shots I've taken, any comments would be appreciated!
My flickr is here although I'm only uploading a few photos that I think are worth it at the moment. All of these are taken with a Canon 450d and kit lens and the cheapest tripod I could find!
I'm thinking of getting a wide angle lens for landscapes but I can never seam to find any cheapest ones, they all seem to be £400!

Anyway, what do you think?

Thanks

Michael

Eta - bigger photos, and I felt like trying to be clever. tongue out

You may want to consider linking to the larger images, or put the larger images on here.

I thought it would do that, that seems like the largest it will go to from Flickr, do I need to upload onto photobucket instead to get the larger images?

£400 is about the right price for a cheap ultra wide angle, you should see the price of the expensive ones! hehe

PH automatically resizes any image down to 750px wide and it does it badly. The best option is either to display Flickrs medium size with a link to the larger size or if your feeling clever you can make the medium photo clickable so that it will link to the large size, the code for this is [ url ][ img ]link to medium size[ /img]|link to large size[ /url ] (although without the spaces obviously).

Cheers Dogsey, Have done that now.
I've been looking at the sigma 10-20mm which everyone seams to have! Will have to keep an eye out on ebay for second hand ones in a few months when I can justify spending the money again!

I like the shots.

My only critisim, which I'm finding myself and having to double check is that some of the shots aren't straight. For some reason, although I shoot handheld most of the time, I've found myself taking the picture at a slight slant, so I'm having to run through a few checks now before I hit the button. Better to get it straight first time than change afterwards.

I found that I have got into a really bad habit of not looking through the viewfinder straight. I am fixing that.

I have also started going to a photography lesson on composition which I think was worth it. The key components seems to be shapes, repetition, lines, thirds. So I'm trying to line up some of these components before hitting the shutter button as well.

As for wide angle, I went for a Tokina 11-16mm f2.8 about 3 weeks ago. Fabulous lens and can highly recommend it. Although, having said that none of the wide angles are mingers (canon, tokina, sigma or tamron).

Thanks Tinman0,

I'd not realised how slanted they we until you mentioned it, there all a bit off!
It was the first time I'd used the tripod for those night shots and I didn't take the time i should have to set up the tripod.

I really like your shot, that taken with the wide angle?

Sure was. Still getting used to it. Read an interesting (but obvious) thing on the Ken Rockwell site that position of these types of lenses really matter. He talks about the placement being different on each inch of position. To be honest, I'm not going to disagree, positioning has to be really worked on and I'm still playing with that.

If the lens stays level, then you don't get the distortion. But its when you change your position you can really get something interesting things happening.

And the field of view is stunning. Absolutely knock your socks off stunning if you've never seen it.

Just bought a 10-20mm Canon a couple of weeks ago, I can't keep it off the camera...fantastic....you will love it if you purchase one...some pics below of a visit to Glencoe yesterday, using 10-20mm with a polarising filter.

Just use www.tinypic.com doesn't need an account to sign up or anything. Just choose photo, choose size you want (forum, 800x600 etc) it will resize and then give you a link with [img] brackets round it. Just copy and paste.
