Can anyone provide a nice high res image for me?
Discussion
Hi all, I was hoping someone here could help.
I'm looking for a classy print for my new office, and am struggling to find sufficient sized images on the net.
My dad has a printing press, so I can get the print professionally done, but he needs a very high res, and large file size photo.
As for what I want, it needs to look classy and not tacky.
I thought something with a classic old porshce (356 etc), maybe a city skyline at night....
I don't want the typical office motivational crap posters up, so thought something original would be nice.. but can't be too petrol head-ish.
If anyone could help it would be very much appreciated!
Thanks in advance.

I think you will be lucky to get a free-bee (if that is what your asking for, i may have mis-interpreted what you meant). Most people who take pictures to a high enough stanard to blow up large and display in an office would probably be looking to sell them.
I thought that people here who take photo's for a hobby, not a profession, wouldn't mind helping a fellow PH'er out, or that someone might have a very high res image they found somewhere that they saved

My dad had one of those too. He sold his in 1949. What model does your dad have?
Sorry, force of habit all the family (indian) call it 'the printing press', so I call it that without thinking! My dad had one of those too. He sold his in 1949. What model does your dad have?
He does incidentally have a couple of old presses, heidelberg IIRC.

Game to OP
But am still interested to know what the father has that prints photographs 'professionally'. (It needs files more than 1 mb apparently).

He does commercial printing on a Heidelberg 4 colour machine, but obviously my print won't be done on that. Mine will be done on one of the printers used by those people you see in the shopping centers that will put any photo onto canvas print etc. He uses that at the moment to create posters, and exhibition banners etc, when only a one off print is needed. So I would imagine it's 'professional' enough

They probably aren't considered 'professional' to some here, this is a photography forum so your definition of the word may be different, but certainly as good as going into a normal shop and buying a print for my office...
ETA : I may not have made myself clear... My dad owns a printing business, and has for over 30 years.... it's not just a hobby of his!

Cheeky devil! Hobbyists put just as much work and invest considerable money and learning into their work. Would you give your services say as a hobbyist joiner for free? If so, how's about you knock me a up a bookcase and you can have one of my limited edition prints in exchange

Well, let's put family aside and get back to the question in hand.
I think the issue here is really resolution (ie pixels). File size is IMHO largely nonsensical. I can make a crap image into a bitmap or 16-bit TIFF and it will be a massive file, but crap visual quality.
I suppose the average DSLR is about 10Mp, which gives you (if Nikon) 3872 x 2592px to play with. A RAW file from my D200 is about 9Mb, and JPGs vary from 4-9Mb depending on detail.
What size print did you have in mind?

you probably wouldn't want to put anything on it though!
There's never any harm in asking, if it's a problem, people will say no... I won't mind
