Canon Powershot G10 £270

Not sure if this will interest anyone else... It does interest me, but should it do?

Was looking at getting something better than current 6 megapixel Sony thing to take on holidays this year, and this looks decent (although a year or two old) and about £90 less than i can see it anywhere else. But not sure if it's worth spending that on what's essentially still a compact camera or if i should just use my existing one for that and spend a lot more on an SLR instead.

Any opinions on whether this is a good deal?

Thats quite a sophisticated little camera. I reckon its a good deal.

A DSLR will have better picture quality if you plan on having large prints to hang on the wall. If not then IMO the small size of the Canon is an advantage. Carrying a DSLR around can be a pain sometimes.

As far back as 1984 I've always had a small compact and a decent SLR - hence both ends of the spectrum covered

I have a Nikon D3 , and my wife bought me a G10 for my birthday a year of so ago as a small camera to carry when i did not have the space or inclination to cart all the big kit about , I find i know take the G10 eveywhere sometimes instead of the D3 !

My FiL has one of these, as well as a D90. It produces some amazing images, well worth having as an addition to a DSLR. FiL takes his away on hols when luggage space is at a premium. I'd love one. I saw one for less than that in a closing down sale in Currys in Peterborough, (ex-display), but I had just bought a Nikon D5000 that day - I think the wife would've killed me if I turned up with 2 new cameras!
