Nikon Capture Software - Help please!

I need to use a D1 for some tethered shooting.
I've been setting it all up and testing using a trial version of Nikon Camera Control Pro 2.
It does everything I need for the task of taking the pic and saving on the network where I can play around with the image on another PC.
As my 30 day trial has ended, it looks like I have to either pay $180 for the full version or find something else to do the job.
Before I get my well-worn credit card out, can anyone suggest an alternative which might be better for roughly the same money or do the same job for less?
