Just a Quicky. Can you compose a pic using the the 3" LCD on a bright and sunny day? Is the image still clear when the sun is shining?
Thankyou for any replies

I don't have a D90 but my guess (from D70/200/300/700) is that it would be OK in shade, but useless (as any screen would be) with direct sun on it. You can increase the brightness of the screen - but then you'll blind yourself when you go indoors.

What's wrong with the viewfinder?

The LCD screen on my D300s isn't great on a bright sunny day but it does work.

I assume the D90 has live view?

Yes - D90 has live view.

Must confess I haven't used Live view on a bright and sunny day yet… but I suspect you could get away with it.

I've got a D5000, and the Liveview is useable on a sunny day. The only time I really struggled was in Abu Dhabi last October, when I was in direct sun, it was a little difficult to see the screen. The fact that the D5000 screen can be tilted and swivelled helped a lot though.

Managed to get this shot, in a crowd of people:

ETA: This was with camera at arms length forward above my head, looking at the screen, which was hinged down at 90 degrees.

Yeah, what of it!?

Actually, no! I was thinking that after writing it - Not sure what happened there - I've got other photos of Webber and a few other drivers where the angle is obviously over the head. Think this may have been more side-on, but I was about 4 rows back in the crowd, so was definitely not able to use the viewfinder!

Incidentally, my wife had a great shot of Button, but some idiot had got their hand and camera in the way of his face - yeah, that idiot was me!

I've got a D90 and never used live mode, I honestly dont see the point, it's just so much easier and more comfortable to use the viewfinder.

If by some freak chance we manage to have a sunny day over the bank holiday weekend, i'll try it and let you know wink
