Well, its a generic product so I guess yes.
That said, is the metal body 1.4 worth three times the price of the basic 1.8MkII?

I have the F1.8. It's very flimsy and feels very cheaply made it's also a bit slow to focus. In spite of that I still love it. The F1.4 lets in twice the light along with USM focusing, I'd say it's probably worth the extra and will upgrade at some point.

Reason I ask is that my 1.8 broke (focus is now a bit fuzzy, looks a bit like tilt-shift straight out of the box now!) so I need a replacement. Wondering if I get the same or spend up and get a 1.4.

My 50mm f1.4 is my favourite lens, and constantly in use for getting low light hand-held shots of the kids.

Built like a tank and razor sharp.

Off topic, but Cactussed did you like the print that was waiting for you when you got back from Oz?

Guys, don't you find it a bit too short even on a crop sensor?
I still haven't decided which lens to invest in for my portraits but I'm just worried that 50mm won't be too flattering.

Works for me, but I wouldn't go any shorter. This with a Nikon 50mm f1.4:

Go too long and in a small studio you can run out of range (as somebody here with a 70-200 found out)

This was at 70mm:

If you want a better built 1.8 then the mk1 could be an option, more money, same optics as the mk2 but metal mount , better focus ring and distance scale.
