Hi,

Full disclosure: I know nothing about photography at all.

I am looking to buy a very much bog standard point and shoot which I can take down to training. It is quite likely to get buggered over the course of the year so don't want to spend too much really.

Would rather it wasn't a Techikkaaa-aa-aaa or some other ste though. Boggo Samsung or Panasonic?

Will need a flash on it however!

Thanks!

I bought a little Panasonic Lumix (TZ one) a year or so ago and it's been great. The intelligent auto setting works nicely, the flash can get in the way sometimes but it's useful for filling in when shooting into the sun, and you can override it to increase the ISO to a preferred maximum. The stabilisation is handy as well, it's not perfect but it does a good job

The g/f commandeered it last month for a trip to Ireland and some nights out and she's quite taken with it. Picture quality is decent, I'm not sure I'd want to print from it, but for online it works fine.

www.panasonic.co.uk/lumix - depending on your budget the TZ10 looks decent enough.

Just bought this Vivitar. Looks a lovely camera for the money. He has others & it does come in different colours.

I hope it's better than the cheap Vivitar I tried a few years ago. It was an utter crock of poo.

(Mind you I hear that the FUJIFILM FinePix F50fd is better than any DSLR - super macro, fixed lens, so no dust to worry about, shove in a 16 GB and it'll take raw with no worries on size, approx 25 mb per pic raw, couple extra generic batteries from amazon...)
