This BBC News-featured Video of the Trainspotter...
Discussion
Since it was featured on the news tonight (Friday 14th May) I've just spent some time watching it on YouTube. The clip shows the real-time footage, then a slow-motion version.
I'm not a video codec expert by any means, so I was wondering how the frames in the slow motion clip are so much clearer than those in the real-time version (I was quickly pause-playing the real-time part to see how close the train actually got and the results weren't very good!)?

I can't see that here but did see it on the telly - what a muppet!I'm not a video codec expert by any means, so I was wondering how the frames in the slow motion clip are so much clearer than those in the real-time version (I was quickly pause-playing the real-time part to see how close the train actually got and the results weren't very good!)?

The issue with the frames is probably down to camera phones that shoot 30fps that then gets put on youtube as some weird de-interlaced format which mashes all those frames together, the person who slo-mowed the original footage stetches those frames out so they become effectivly become single frames again...and sharper.
