Took the 5dmk2 to the hospital yesterday in a bid to capture the birth of my baby girl. Considering it took 17 hours I thought I'd condense it all down somewhat to have a permanent reminder of the event...

Manual focusing was actually quite a lot easier in video mode, shot it all with the 24-105 f4 L with +1 ev

Superb quality - not exactly something you'll want to watch every weekend, but brilliant for an archive.

Love the occasional look that you (I presume it was you!) gave to the camera - to make sure it was recording? - That would have earned me a slap in your shoes!

Nice one and congrats Stig.

I took my 50D into my wife's planned C-Section last Tuesday and got some amazing pictures of our little boy as he was being dragged out of her tummy!

I wish now I'd taken more, but at the time I thought the staff would be unhappy about this photo lark. As it happens, they were OK and afterwards asked why I didn't take any more.

To have a picture of my sons head sitting on her tummy, the rest of his body still inside having still not taken a breath is simply quite amazing...

I will gladly post if you guys want to see some bloody and guts!

yes! I was told by all lads at work stay away from business end. They missed out. OK for the suction cup bit I was comforting sarah but it was fantastic to see the body work as it does!!

All images removed - I'm not into offending other PH's.

Unfortunately I had the camera on live view and focus is ste. As I mentioned, with hindsight I shoudl have stood up and held the bloody camera as I'll never get another chance!

At the time I was conscious of my camera and not getting in the way.

I shouldn't have been and just got on with it through the viewfinder!

Interesting question, how do you think your kid will feel about their birth being available to see by everybody in the world when they are older?

It is a truly fascinating time from a sociological point of view in that kids born today are having virtually everything they do recorded from the very day they are born. This is then shared on the internet they haven't consented to this and once shared it is very difficult to undo.

Today's kids are being born to a generation of facebook users and are likely to find sharing virtually everything they do completely normal. The interesting thing is that for most of us here our youths are hazy memories and old photos of special events, for today's kids it will be shared HD movies as crisp as the day they were shot and instantly available to anybody who wants to watch.

I don't think you are wrong posting this up btw, just a little a head of the curve.

an interesting view and considering my nature of work one I am often asking. My personal view is people share too much of their lives on the net but for special occasions I turn a blind eye, occasions such as this. Neither of us have a problem with it and by the time she is old enough to know I doubt it still being in existence. She will be raised to be private but not to be scared or embarrassed by her body, appearance or thoughts. I'll defend her privacy to much an extent but certian things I will over ride on such as this.

I will keep her from facebook, I personally believe it to be ruinous despite me occasionally using it as a great way to keep others up to date about the birth. Thats about the only time I've used it. I genuinely fear for the future generations that grow up to think it ok to post every second of their life on the web for all to see, I find it pathetic at present how much some of my friends feel the need to share, so much so that I've actually evaluated whether to keep them in my circle or not.

On this occasion though, I figured it not an issue.

I agree with Stig and I'm sure when little Sam is big enough to surf PH, this thread will be long gone!
