Replacement 2nd Lense for Canon Digi SLR for wedding use...
Discussion
Eeup all,
Need a replacement lense for my 350D, 2nd hand, that I can use as a general use all round lense. It would also need to be ideal for a wedding type use but in the hands of anyone who has it.
Does anyone have any suggestions? My Sigma 28-300 gave up the ghost, prefering to go freestyle instead of the mechanism for winding in and out working like it should
Any good 2nd sites, or suggestions as to where to get one would be gratefully recieved.

What do you mean by wedding use?
Shots in the church? posed pics before or after? party shots?
The usual issue is the lens needing to be very fast because of the low light. The only low light lens you'll get for under 100 is the 50mm 1.8. How useful that focal length will be for you is another question.

Outside, and in a marquee. maybe a bit in a church hall, but all usually pretty good light.Shots in the church? posed pics before or after? party shots?

You might be better off sticking with a 'one size fits all' lens and buying a stonking flashgun instead. If money is tight there's always s/h from eBay.
When I started doing weddings and only had 'average' kit (ie D70 and 18-70/70-300 lenses) my shopping list was, in order of need:
1) Stonking flashgun - you can make a powerful flash dimmer but you can't make a dim flash brighter
2) Fast telephoto (70-200 f2.8) because in low light the 70-300 unuseable due to hunting
3) Fast wideangle (17-55 f2.8)
I also have a clever flash cord with extra AF illuminator (supplements the one in the flash) so I can focus accurately and shoot in total darkness if I have too!
I prefer zooms because I can instantly frame/compose. Others may/will have their own way of doing things and have different kit priorities of course.

At that money the only sensible choice is a 50mm F1.8. There is a Mk1 at www.mifsuds.co.uk at the moment for £89. These are better than the Mk2 for optics and have a metal mount. The next choice would be a 35mm prime but those are over the budget. A friend in the US shoots weddings and similar events and he often just uses a 50mm.
Zooms will give you some flexibility over cropping and angles byt they will cost you with light gathering, sharpness and CA and will distort significantly at either end of the zoom range. My zoom of choice for weddings is a 24-105 F4 but that will set you back £700 used and over £800 new but you do get what you pay for.

Thanks - going to grab the lens from Mifsuds and start experimenting with it. I hope you like it.
The angle of view will allow you to do some nice small group portrate type shots without having to get too close. This can be great for candids at receptions etc and from personal experience I know that most pro togs don't do this but the bride and groom love the personal touch it adds to a picture collection.

Sorry - pet hate of mine.
It's lens NOT lense.
Some of us use lense on purpose to annoy certain posters here. You've now got onto the list. It's lens NOT lense.
