Went to photograph some planes - PART II
Discussion
After my slightly disastrous trip to the Lake District yesterday decided to get up early and commence the 140+ mile trip to Bwlch (Mach Loop) to try and photograph some planes.
After two and a bit hours driving, on some rather good roads may I add, got lost (god love satnav!), turned around and headed up hill rather than trust the shatnav and found the parking place on the A470. Parked up and had a wander up the hill. Met up with two blokes who said they were on the way up to the top shelf due to 'recent problems'
.
Anyway, deicded to stay on the middle shelf for some piccies. Que an hour or two and another chap turned up, jolly nice, very talkative and quite openly stated he was sick of people having seen the place on the internet and deciding to turn up. Quickly pointed out that's why I was there and he was very nice about it saying that it wasn't people like me with a good camera and equipment but idiots who turn up asking when the jets appear as if on a timetable and a few who state they will use their mobile phone to photograph the planes passing!! He even said that a few weeks ago the mess people left was so bad he actually picked it all up in a black bag. Makes me sad that people leave their crap all over the country side because they can't be arsed carrying it back down the hill.
Anyway, enough of the demented ramblings. By the time this chap turned up I'd been there for two hours. Another hour and a half passed when he mentioned he'd been visiting that spot for ten years now and had never seen the aircraft movement that quiet. Just my luck!!
About half three a hawk appeared with no warning whatsoever and everyone on the shelf and the one above missed it. Bugger!
A few minutes later it re-appeared and then a few minutes after that another appeared.

About an hour passed with absolutely nothing and then an F15 appeared in the distance but banked away from us then circles around the top end of the loop.
Was hoping to see him reappear through the valleys but to no avail. Then all of a sudden a Tornado appeared for a pass!

Unfortunately that was it for the day!
Three different planes and a bloke saying that it was the quietest he'd seen it in a long time!
Anyway, if anyone who was there is reading, thanks for the input on locations and advice. Hope to see you all back there at some point
.
Quietly planning my next trip down (in about 2 1/2 weeks).

It's probably budget cuts. The crew have to spend the morning having a whip round to get the cash together to buy the fuel.
Then they do a runner and sell the plane to a leftie lesbian: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment_and_arts/...Gassing Station | Photography & Video | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
