I just think it's amazing,(obviously bias to a degree)but she tells me she took it in the mirror and edited out the mirror!
Is it just me or is that a great pic?
disclaimer: i know FA about photography
Could be better..

How old is she?

Nice photo though, even if it is a typical social networking site pose.
Yes.

If you were to substitute whatever she's staring at for something else it would make it more interesting?
PS.. Point and click, SLR or Mobile phone camera?

For a self taken photo in a mirror it's not bad.
As a portrait, it could obviously be better.
I think I've ruined it for myself by noticing the heavy black line from her eyebrow, across the bridge or her nose, down the nose to her cheek. Hence lighting could be a bit better.
Pretty looking girl though.

First - and most important - thing to say: if you like it, then it's a great picture.
For me, the cluttered background and the intrusions top and bottom left are too distracting. The blown highlights and the harsh lighting don't help, and the out-of-frame eyeline doesn't make me engage with the subject.
However, for you it's different. You know her, so you connect with the picture in a much more immediate way, and if, for that reason, you like it, then it's a great picture.

Just looks like a standard myface picture to me. Check the portraits thread for good pictures.
