Good Afternoon Ladies and Gents.

I'd like to conduct a small experiment if you will. I have been reading up on getting an image onto the Explor page. Either my photos aren't good enough (more than likely) or I am not getting enough traffic buy putting into relevant groups. Stay with me ...

Someone post a picture up - entirely for research purposes "hence why we aren't using one of mine" which isn't on flickr. Give us the title so we can find it or the relevant tags, not a direct link incase we get spotted hehe and then we go and favourite the image and put a comment or some such.

You must favourite the image though.

This is only for my benefit so I can stop the hunt of getting to explor. It's a bit like football at school. Playing is fun but winning is great.

If you don't want to play thats fine but it would only take you 2 minutes.

Curious

Nothing you do will help it get in explore. I've had a couple of shots in there with no comments, views or favourites. No idea how the work it out...

Ah OK then. I thought it may have been linked to favourites.

Ignore this then! Thanks for clearing that up!

Fav's help, but there's more to the algorithm than simply fav's and comments...I've had some get in with about 20 views, 3 comments and 2 favs, others take 20+ comments and fav's with low view count...

I'm no expert in how to hit explore, BUT:-

Bright colours (grab peoples attention)
Interesting subject (again to draw people in)
4 Groups or less (don't include any add 1 pic, comment 40-teen billion groups)
10 tags or less
...and my weird one - shallow DOF seems to work best for me at least!

After getting a couple included a few weeks apart it made me play around with the above and a few more followed - then I got bored and concentrated on making my toy pics as stupid as they were before it all got mad...

This little dude managed to hit #41 during my attempt using the above logic...

Really interesting Baz, as I've been wondering what makes it work. Interesting thoughts.

I will try your method next time to see if it has any results... I think it is just algorithms, but however, one thing i have noticed is a pattern of tree's in fields, pretty girls, splashes in coffees cups and lightning storms always seem to be making the top ten!!?? if you like my next pic fav it to help with my little mission!!

Sorry, some nice shots you have there too smile I have a real pet hate for stupid flickr groups that spam peoples photos with their logos (and don't even comment), what's the point?

Use the Canon 100mm f2.8 (and extension tubes), but mostly the MP-E65mm.

canon MP 65mm macro, B-E-A-Utiful lens!... gotta be the ultimate macro lens no? Yeah i hate that too, but i seem to get it all the time with the groups i post in. It's a catch 22, if you don't post their's no exposure for your photo, but then if you do, you get spam!! grrrr
Have you seen the amount of smoke blowing up arses that goes on at flickr. Don't mind if it's justified, but some of it is tragic photography that gets honoured... why??!!!!!
