What exactly do you want; do you have a particular model in mind or do you just need any flashgun that can be triggered wirelessly? TTL metering; manual control; Nikon on any manufacturer; new or used?

No particular model in mind and it doesnt need to be new. it can literally be any bog standard off camera flash as long as it can be controlled wirelessly. it doesnt need to be made by Nikon but does need to work with a Nikon D5000

Have a look on www.talkphotography.co.uk in the Trader/For Sale section. There's a chap there called Flash In The Pan that sells some cheapish flashguns, triggers, stands, softboxes, umbrellas and adaptors.

If you're using optical or radio triggers and are happy with manual control, then pretty much any old flashgun will work. Look on eBay, photography forum classifieds and dealers' websites.

If you want to use Nikon TTL metering flash system, then you need a modern Nikon flashgun. The basic one is the SB-600, which appears to cost £220 new or you could look for second-hand ones (e.g. https://secure.ffordes.com/Shop/Store/Itemdet.asp?... I believe that with the D5000 you will also need an infra-red trigger or Nikon master flashgun on your camera hotshoe.
