On my recent European holiday I dropped my Canon 350d. My travel insurer's are stating that I must get a quote for repair before they consider paying me out. I dropped it about 10-15ft so I'm unsure if it will be cheap to repair.

Anyway, I am in South Staffordshire (Lichfield) and wondered if there are any good Camera repair shops in the local area, or if not, somewhere online where I can send it to and get an estimate?

TIA

They are all generic websites that are using the keyword Lichfield in order to score the hit.

I was hoping for a recommendation.... smile

Lehmans - Hmm I had a rather unsatisfactory experience with them repairing a Canon lens.

Initial quote received promptly, so lens sent off. However, after waiting weeks and weeks (8 weeks ish) I wanted to see where my lens was and found it difficult to speak to anyone there (phone or email) to get any sort of update. I started to worry they had gone bust !
It turns out their revised (ie more expensive) quote went awry despite having my corect details and simply sat on it until I happened to catch someone willing to answer their phone.

If they are so busy with professional togs and kit then fine but they should refuse business from amateurs.

I rather wish I had plumped for another of the repairers recommended by Canon.

That's interesting because I had cracking service from them, couldn't fault it and I'm certainly no Professional, no-one would argue with that .

I guess like most things, sometimes the experience is not so good. I would hope it was a one off in your case.

to save starting a new thread...

I've been using a Sony Cybershot T3 for the last few years which has now decided to throw its toys out of the pram. It still takes photos but the screen shows the view with kind of a drippy paint effect with a pink hue (haven't downloaded any yet to see if they view ok, will do tonight)
I have taken the opportunity to upgrade to a dslr as the T3 was beginning to not quite stretch to my photo opportunities & needs. The guy I spoke to in my local camera shop asked if it had been knocked (not that I know of) & that it might be the sensor

So my questions are:
Is it worth trying to get it repaired to sell on?
Does anyone know of a camera repair place in or within sensible distance of Norwich?
Is anyone good with fixing bits like this & want to take it off my hands? hehe

Thanks in advance

ok & to add to the above, the pictures comeout fuzzy too although not to the extent of the screen view imo

They're not simple to repair, I've seen skilled electronics engineers try and end up throwing the resultant pile of bits in the bin. Even if you could get replacement parts, the cost would probably be more than a new one.

I suspect your camera's a few years old now, so really it's probably not worth much to sell, even if it were working properly.

My little compact camera managed 4.5 years and about 12,000 photos (with two replacement screens) before it finally died. It seems they're almost a disposable item nowadays.

Sorry if that's not the opinion you wanted to hear.

no worries I have already replaced it with a digital slr which is more suited to my needs now it was just a case of whether it could have been fixed to give someone else the benefit of its as its a handy little thing.

so now the case is does anyone have or know of someone that has a sony cybershot who wants some accessories as I still have all the cables and 2 T type batteries hehe
