Apologies for the delay in announcing the winner. I wasn't entirely aware of the standard operating procedure (but I am now http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a..., cheers Dogsey).

Sadly, my chosen subject wasn't as successful as I thought. I was hoping to stimulate some creativity so, to that end, the most creative shot I would judge is the one from ism123:

Well done Ian!

Not my call but I always believed part of the standard operating procedure is that the entries close at midnight on the last day of the month.

Firstly I thought the idea of "Jack" was just a bit too vauge to challenge creativity, even thinking 2million miles outside of the box! But you made a call and stuck by it, something I regret not doing years ago.

Like you i won a comp so set the following months comp to "taken on a mobile phone". It could be absolutely any pic and relied on honesty to be taken on the phone, one of my favourite shots of my own was done on it. It was to take away the edge that the expensive cameras were having as i felt a lot of people won based on the image quality not content.

Well my idea caused a st storm as one member had just bought a 1dmk3 and how dare I exclude it in such a way, in the end i folded to the bhing that ensued as I felt it was starting to ruin what had been to that point a regular friendly comp.

Well done for sticking by a rather difficult comp choice. I think it just narrowed the scope too far

Thats terrible.

You need to pick one that was entered in the actual month. Thats the idea.

Rules;

2 The competition will run from the first to the last day of the month.

The entry 9th August albeit very good and creative does not comply with the aforementioned rule therefore, the result should be made null and void

You are having a laugh. I am sure its called the july photo competition and not the "Mainly july and a a bit of August" photo competition.

+1 Chill out rules facists - I'm guessing there weren't many to choose from so let's just move on with next month smile

(Oh hang on it's invalid too because we have missed the start date eek)

The opportunity to read the rules are open to all. If an entrant chooses to not comply with the rules then so be it however, it would then be down to the moderator or rule enforcer to ensure the rules are adhered.

"Facist" would give the wrong interpretation to one who supports rule. If a rule is in place then it should be supported. A world without rule would be anarchy.

It's not the point of chilling out more to obey and expected enforcement your comments are somewhat tortuous and frivolous

My own personal view is the rules are there to distinguish between the months of the year and to try and get people out and practicing the art during the month you submit.
However, there is nothing to be gained by arguing about it on here for the remainder of August, so can we just chalk it up to experience and get down to kicking Augusts competition off?

What? being accused of being a facist? Then being ironic.

The issue requires arbitration

Well as a neutral I'll put my 4p in.

IMO whoever starts the competition gets to set any criteria/rules they want, and if potential entrants don't wish to play by them, they don't enter.

Owzat?

How about someone nudges ism123 and tasks him with setting the August comp?

Then the competion was started when the rules were set so the decision would then lie with the individual who created the rule. The competition did not start in July
