Has anyone ever been to Bahrain? I am starting work there in a weeks time and wondering what photographic opportunities there are over there, and whether it would be worth taking full DSLR with lenses and tripod or just digi compact. If anyone has been feel free to post some sample shots from the place but please, no camel/shadow shots smile

It is a while since I was last there but from what I remember, the locals don't take kindly to westerners taking pictures of any gov't buildings or other facilities. There wasn't a huge amount there to take pics of, apart from the desert - obviously.

I am very happy to be contradicted as it has been about 15 years since I was last there.....

You're forgetting the tree of life!! wink

Apart from that there are a few older forts, the souk and also the causeway to Saudi which is worth an evening trip when its all lit up.

Also don't forget the BIC, there are events/track days on there quite regularly, other than that - errrrr, sand and rock really!

There's always things to take photos of, anywhere in the world!

I lived in Bahrain from 1990 to 1997, so I too suspect things have changed a bit. Manama's certainly got plenty of things to take photos of from traditional souks to more contemporary stuff. There's also the airport, which has a road running right next to the runway if you fancy that sort of thing. There's also plenty of harbours, beaches, and of course the desert. Of which there's lots of! The Tree of Life was always quite photogenic in the sunset.

I'd take the whole dSLR stuff if you can smile
