GoPro video editing, help needed

I recently bought a GoPro hd hero camera, I've been doing some basic editing using iMovie on my iMac but as soon as it goes into iMovie it seems to lose all of its quality.
How can i edit my videos and maintain the excellent quality the GoPro records?
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

are you sure Imovie is losing quality.

Never done it here. Is it on the viewing screen when you edit the movie or is it your output ?

I have one and I drag straight from the go pro into iMovie and it looks fine. When one makes a DVD a lot of quality is lost... or if you squash it into a quicktime... is that what you meant?

ETA... I suppose you are using iMovie HD ... not the standard def version?
